A friend saw a bunch of reviews, all lauditory, of the 6.5-20X50 Simmons white tail classic scope.  I checked and he's right.  But as we all know, anyone can say anything they want and it may not be reliable data. Has anyone tested or used this scope, and if so, what say you?

Nope - why dont you buy one Jack and you can tell us about it.  My last Simmons went in the trash can at the range so I dont think they won me over.

I've had one of the old ones (philippine made) and i have to say at that time, it was a very good scope in it's price bracket. Got very decent glass but i did not like the finger adjustable turrets as compared to the old simmon's 44mag with target type turrets.

I had a simmons 6-18 once. It was on a Savage markII 22lr target barrel, 2shots would be close together the next a couple inches away the next sometimes closer some times farther. After trying 5 differrent brands of ammo I sent the scope (that had a warranty) back to simmons, they told me it would cost $90 to fix due to a bent tube, now this was brand new and installed by the gunsmith who sold me the rifle and scope.
Needless to say lesson learned never will a simmons cross my door step again. I keep it in the scope cabinet as a reminder.

You could probably get a Bushnell 3200 (with less magnification) for about the same money....that would be a better deal.

Right.  Since I'm not buying one for any reason, including scientific inquiry, I thought someone else might have slipped and done so.  Why test what you're already pretty certain of?

My only actual experience with Simmons has been literary, or second hand.  I know several shooters who purchased package rifle deals at Wally's World.  The first step they took was to remove the Simmons scope and lob it into the nearest trash receptacle.

Thanks and merry Christmas.

There are some pretty decent prices on the vortex crossfire line, that may interest you. Check SWFA.com

I have seen some decent Simmons scopes in the past (like the original Aetec).  However, with Simmons changing hands so many times, I have no idea what the track record is for the current scopes.

Perhaps, I will buy one for my 22 for starters and see.

I have a Philippine made Whitetail Classic in 6.5-20x50. My first impression was that it's flipping HUGE! My second thought was it's flipping HUGE!. But it has a solid feel and the glass was very clear at all magnifications. I bought it for use with a 22 target rifle but quickly figured out this wasn't a good fit for it. It's a low light hunting scope and the crosshairs were just too thick for what I wanted. I'm actually on my second. The first had issues with parallax that could not be dialed out with the AO. Meade (I'm not sure who owns Simmons this week) replaced it for $10 shipping charges but I've never gotten around to trying out the new one.

I have a simmons whitetail 4-10 on a ruger 243.  it was my brothers and in since mine.  Works great for a gun that i never shoot and never will.  It does seem to have good quality and has held up to when he shot it probably 500 times.
