I know the consensus for the most part on BSA scopes, not very good.  I just put a new Simmons Prosport on my .17hmr and am in the market for another scope to put on my wifes .17.  I havent had the opportunity to go out and shoot with my Simmons yet so i dont know how it will fare against a BSA.  I picked these two manufacturers simply for their bottom dollar price.  I was thinking about getting another Simmons 4-12x50 prosport, or the BSA contender series 4-16x40 for her gun.  I read a few article on the net including the one written by Chris of SWFA regarding the many changes of Simmons through various buyouts and what not, dont know if they have degraded in quality since all of those changes took place. Simply put i just wanna know if Simmons is really a better pick over BSA or if they are about equal as far as quality.

IMHO- The cheapest scope that you can buy is not your solution. You need to buy the best scope for the money you can spend. There are some good quality scopes with a good reports available. In my personal experience. I will never buy BSA again. SIMMONS problem stems from exactly what you read. They were the victim of an Investors group who changed the manufacturing requirements for their product to increase their bottom line and then sold to someone else before they got caught with all the bad product returns. I understand a new co. (Meade) purchased Simmons and are working to improve the product. I can recommend The Bushnell Banner ,Mueller or Nikon scopes for your price range. Go to SWFA.com and research the different scopes available it will drive you crazy reading about all of them.....GOOD LUC and Happy New Year to you.
