I see the WTC on sale for $99 and was wondering how it compared to the 3.8-12-44 Aetec?

Hello Bolio1,
I own two WTC18's and they live on my 10/22T's.
My buddy owns two of them also and they are mounted on a modified 10/22 and a Savage 10FP in .223.
Neither of us have had any problems with them at all.
I may get another for a Savage 917VS in .17HMR that I will pick up on 01-04-05. (either that or the Burris)
I have owned the Aetec model you are speaking about. It failed within 10 (or so) rounds through my Savage 110 .30-06. Something on the inside broke and it would not even remotely hold on target, let alone zero.
It also depends on what you want to shoot and what you are shooting.
Happy shopping . . .

aetec is the top of the line scope that simmons makes, and is superior to the WTC, and is worth the extra money, but you best bet is buy something besides simmons. check out a bushnell 3200, or a burris FF2.

Hello Bolio 1,
I own a 2.8x10 AETEC which is mounted on a Rem 700 in 6.5x55 and I managed to take a nice 8 point at 200 yards. I did have a little trouble with the eye piece adjustment when shots where under low light conditions at or farther than 250 yards, but I solved it. My AETEC holds zero and is clear and bright. I also own a WTC in 6.5x20x50 mounted on a rebarreled Ruger 1 in 7-08 AI. The WTC scope is clearer, brighter, and a better low light scope than my AETEC, and for me it works best from 8-12 power. It is a huge scope and when you are punching paper there is no need for a spotting scope. I accidently knocked my Ruger 1 over in the deer blind this year and the scope lost it's zero. So there is a question of durability and another trip back to the rifle range. My hunting partner also has a 2.8x10 AETEC mounted on a Rem 700 in 270 and it is a real tack driver. He managed to crawl on his belly about 200 hundreds to get within a 300 hundred yard shot on a real nice 8 point across a small canyon. I believe the AETEC is a clear, bright, and good looking scope which perfroms well in field. Yes, there are many scopes that are better, but for the price the AETEC is hard to beat. Bill |
