I really like the clarity, looks and price of this scope along with the excellent eye relief. It even comes with a sunshade! But what if a guy was wanting to shoot, say, 500-600 yards. Would it be a problem? I think it would be because of no A/O. Does anyone know what the parralax is preset at? I was thinking about adding Stoney Point target knobs to the scope but if the scope won't work for these distances I guess I'll have to look for something else!

The original, Japanese made Aetecs were pretty good scopes for the money.  If memory serves me all production has moved to China.  Quality of the current Aetecs is no where near what it once was.  I don't think you coud count on it for long range shooting.  I think you would be lucky if impact points stayed consistent throughout the power range.  Simmons is not a brand that I would ever reccomend.  If money is a concern I would go with either a Burris Fullfield II or a Bushnell Elite 3200.  Both of these scopes in 3-9x40 sell for less than $200.00.

I think I'll just save my pennies and buy a Super Sniper.

Turkeyslayer,

Your on the right track.  The Aetec is...was...and will be an excellent scope for the money.  They are not made in China and even if they were it would not single handily make it a bad scope.  Don't change your game plan because of one persons bias.

ranburr,

Have you shot with an Aetec?  long range?  compared them to other scopes in their price range in a hunting environment?  I have....I own a current model that I hunt with on a Remington Mohawk .243.  It is a very easy scope to use with its long constant eye relief.  Their fully multi-coated aspherical lenses offer a flat, wide field of view with above average light transmission.  It absolutely smokes anything in its price range ($140. or under).

The Aetec is more of a hunting scope but is up to the challenge for long range target....the SS is considerably better and obviously better suited for long range but it is also more than 2x the money.

Chris you are right once again, my memory did not serve me right.  From what I can tell current production is in the Phillipines.  I personally think the original scopes were of higher quality and I don't like this scope.  That does not mean that you can't like it.  I realize that you guys have to walk a fine line since you sell all different brands.  I am merely stating my biased opinion.  Take it for what it is worth or ignore it.  Thanks!

The Aetec is probably set for parallax somewhere between 100-150 yrds from the factory. I don't know anything about your shooting ability, but, 500-600 is a mighty long poke at live game by most standards, even the editors of most hunting articles would most likely agree regardless of the shooters talent. For target shooting, knock yourself out.

Or, if you really want A/O, spend the extra $15:
Simmons Aetec 3.8-12x
You lose the diference between 2.8x and 3.8x minimum setting.   You gain 11x and 12x settings plus A/O.   Still get the sun shade.  Great multi purpose scope.

I have the simmons aetec you are referring to.  I called simmons and they said the scope is set parralax free at 100 yds.
