Hi,

Does anyone have any experience with both the Simmons 22 Mag 3-9x32 AO and the Bushnell Sportsman 3-9x32 AO for comparison purposes??

(I also was looking at the BSA Sweet 22 for a bit, but for some reason I think the three target turrets you get with it (for three different 22 rounds; 36gr, 28gr, and 40gr might be a lot of hype. Don't like hype, so I ruled it out. Maybe I'm wrong and should put this one back in the running).

Anyway, I've been considering the Simmons and Bushnell for a couple of days now. One is around $60 and the other around $80 and this is what I want to spend.

So please, no advice telling me to "save up" for a Burris, Leupold, Nikon, Weaver etc.. I can afford these "better" scopes but I'm pretty sure I'll be content shooting from 15 - 75 yds with these cheapies.

I like the looks of the Bushnell reticle a bit better than the Simmons reticle but at this point I have no real preference.

The scope will be mounted on a Browing semi-auto .22 I just bought. It will be used used for shooting rats, paper punching and plinking.

I wish there were a store within driving difference that I could go to for a side by side comparison but alas...

Thanks y'all very much,

Mike

If you can raise your price just a little get the Banner over the sportsman.http://www.swfa.com/pc-4943-183-bushnell-35-10x36-banner-dusk-dawn-rifle-scope.aspx This scope has the turrets that can be marked for the bullet you are shooting. and is a much sturdier scope I have 2 of them and they are squirrel getters.

I have a simmons scope like you mention, it has been mounted on a 22 for about a year now and so far it has held up. As a cheapy I guess it is OK, but I am going to upgrade it sometime in the future.....

+1 and lol.

The Simmons is a bargain at 2x its current price, noticeably brighter and clearer than the Bushnell.

I totally agree!! I too am scope hunting, for a cheaper tactical scope for my Walther G22. I was looking at BSA since they make some cool tac-looking ones that are inexpensive. I have a Cabella's near me, so I took a little jog down there and HOLY COW.!! It looked like a bunch of tree-huggin hippies were smoking dope and hot-boxing inside. I couldn't believe they would sell such junk! AND THEN I looked at the NCStars...pfft...Those scopes were worse than the BSA's...is that possible? I was on a total crap slide...all the scopes were junk..sweet 22's...catseyes..etc.. Dont even get me started on Tasco.......

Nothing wrong with going to a store and looking to see how your eye initially "sees" through a particular optic. Everyone's eyes are different and what is good to some may not be so good, bad to others may be better. A first look never hurts to make a decision if one wants to go further. However, I constantly see negative comments about scopes...which people have "looked through" in a store. Or maybe just saw comments from someone in a post. Or maybe had a bad experience with a different model. Have you actually USED the BSA Sweet 22? I have one, use it regularly. It is a relatively cheap scope, but in my opinion, based upon actual usage and performance, I got more than what I paid for. The BDC is right on for 40gr bullets, have not used any other weights, so can't talk to that...I like 40gr. I shoot with it all the way out to 200yds. Groups are not really groups at that range, but an 8in target is in serious danger. At 100 yds, my favorite "dead" target is 20oz soda bottles, and they get torn to shreds. I have never missed a squirrel with it, but have shot at a few flying crows and failed to knock them down, a couple have fallen. If crows see the 10/22 stick out the window around here, they depart the property under as much cover as they can find. The optics are not the greatest in clarity at long range, but they ARE cheap. They are also not the worst I have used and fit the need of "plinking", shooting a few varmints/squirrels/etc. I would not put a BSA scope of any type on a bigger caliber rifle unless I got to do some sort of heavy duty trial... had a bad experience with that and ended up trading, to the dealer, a BSA Catseye (which came on a rifle I purchased...I did not select it) and $25 for the Swift Premier I currently have (and boy did I get the better of that deal) but BSA may have found its niche with the Sweet 22. I have probably fired 5000 rounds with this scope/Ruger 10/22 combo, and have had NO problems. Maybe I'm just lucky, but it has served me well.   And my best memory is that a friend bought it for me from SWFA???? I have a couple of friends who use them, and they like them as much as I do, although they do not shoot as much.
