Quick question.

I'm new to this, but doing my research.

What's the $100 difference between these two scopes?

Is it just "mil-dot" vs. "fine cross hair", or is there something else?

I see that the "mil-dot" has "target knobs", but the pics look exactly the same.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?? Thanks.

The only difference that I see is the reticle. One is mil-dot and the other is fine cross hairs.

Zeiss Fine Crosshair

Mil dot and target knobs like you said. A mil dot reticle is an upgrade in reticles. Like all upgrades they come with a price. All in all the scopes are identical besides the obvious.

Target knobs are larger and exposed (do not have covers). They are more of a "tactical" purpose knob. Can be used with gloves on due to the large size of them. A target knob is typically worked more than an ordinary knob. So it will designed for that intention. Someone that shoots at varying ranges would want the target knobs.

Another question:

Why is the wider of these two scopes (50mm vs 44mm) less expensive, even when the 50mm scope has an additional feature (side focus)?

I would think that a wider diameter scope would provide more light transmission, and a brighter view. Why is the narrower of the two more expensive?

My best guess is that they have different reticles, but is a different reticle $50 more? It seems like that would be the least expensive part of the scope.

Man, this forum has really low traffic!

I would think that the Mods (at least) would reply to threads that have some merit, but I guess not.

Well, good luck!

Can anyone reccomend an optics forum with some traffic? Thanks in advance.

They both have side focus. The light transmission rating of the scope is not affected by the objective size. That has to do with the coatings.

It comes down to the Mil dot reticle again. Mil dot reticles will cost more.... bottom line. Since you are comparing a 50mm and a 40mm there will only be a $50 difference. Typically Mil dot reticles will be over $100.

I am the only mod here and do my best to respond.
