I can pick up a Sightron S1 2.5x10x44mm for $150 locally....I've heard you all say good things about Sightron...but do you like only the S2 and S3...or is the S1 good too? Does it compare to the Nikon Buckmaster, or is it more like the ProStaff.  How does it compare to a Burris FF2?

Welcome to The OT!!

The S1 is generally considered disappointing, but the SII is a very nice scope and will out perform the Nikon Buckmaster or the Burris FFII.

The S3 is probably a SII with a 30mm tube.

Too expensive UNLESS you plan on shooting very long range and need the adjustment from a 30 mm tube.

(Even then I would go with a SII and a 20 or 30 MOA rail. Cheaper.)

I'd take the Buckmaster over the SI or the FFII because...NIKON ROCKS!!!!!!!!!

(Except for the Pro Staff, that is.)

Well, I would not exactly call Sightron S1 disappointing.  For the money it is a decent scope.  However, it competes against Nikon ProStaff (and easily leaves it in the dust), not Buckmaster.  Between Buckmaster and Fullfield II, I'll take Fullfield II, but both are pretty good.  Now, considering the fact that you can get a Sightron S2 3-9x42 for ~$200, I see no compelling reason to go with a Buckmaster or Fullfield II unless you need a different reticle of some sort.

Well I was considering the SI 2.5x10x44 for my BAR 30-06(notice too that I said I can get it for $150 locally, the best price I've found on the web is $180)....I live in MI so I don't take shots that need more than 10x......I think I like it better than the Pro Staff, but not quite as much as the Buckmaster....Is that how everyone else here feels too?  BTW, If I buy a Buckmaster from the sample list, does it still come with Nikon's lifetime warranty?

If they say "refurbished", Nikon only gives a 90 day warranty on them.

There is one site where you can find the Sightron SII Koshkin mentioned, but with a German 4 reticle, I believe, for 169.95.  Considering this, there is no question on which scope to buy, if you can live with that reticle.

Sorry, I just checked the site and they have sold out of that scope, but have the standard for 199.95.  N      ss.com.
