I have a sightron SII 4x32 that I am wanting to mount on my Marlin lever actio9n 30-30. It currently has a weaver one piece base designed for detachable rings. when I tried to mount the scope I discovered the rings are too far apart and there are no other slots in the base to mount the rings to closer together. If I switch to two piece seperate bases will they bring the rings closer together to allow mounting? Will I have to buy some type of extension ring or are there other weaver one piece bases for a Marlin lever action that have more than just two ring slots in them to allow more spacing options? If so , what number is that weaver base?
If this scope doesnt work for me then what other scopes do you suggest for a short to medium range brush gun(Marlin 336 in 30-30} that will fit well an compliment the looks and balance of the rifle. I am not really interested in the scout scope look. I was considering the new Burris short mag scopes. Thanks

Leupold makes quick release rings - both extension and regular - for thes bases- the system looks a little wimpy but I assure you it is quite strong and works very well. Warne also makes some weaver style bases in steel. So there are some posibilities. I'm not sure if the rifleman base will work for you or not but it has three slots and looks like it may work. A friend of mine bought a Burris 3-9 short mag and had to send it back because it wouldnt work well over about 6x very odd about correct eye relief the fulfield and other models are much better than the short mag. The Leupold 2.5-8 VXIII is good match for  that rifle.

I'd stay with Weaver-type bases and rings.  THey offer a lot of different options.  As for Burris Short Mag scopes, I do not think they have any more mounting space than SII 4x32.

Weaver makes offset top-mount rings that are inexpensive and work well.

Alternatively, XS SIghts makes a long Weaver type rail for the Marlin lever gun that has a lot of different slots.  You may consider that.

It's a new product for 2006, but I am sure you can buy it for less from some retailer than you could directly from XS Sights.
