Hello all,

I have had a Burris FFII 3x9x40 mounted on a 30-06 for about 3 years now, and absolutely love it.  I just recently bought a Browning  A-bolt in 7mm mag with an old Redfield scope that will not hold zero. After doing some research I have decided on the Sightron SII for the 7mm.  But i am also looking at the SI for a muzzleloader but havent seen much info about them. Has anyone   had any experiance with the Sightron SI?   How do they rank with similar priced scopes as far as optical clarity and light transmisson?  Can they stand up to the recoil  of a muzzleloader? I have seen that if you call SWFA you can get the SII in 3x9x42 for around $185  i was wondering if they can get a SI in 3x9x40 and if so how much?   Thanks for all replies.

I have a Sightron S1 3-9x40MD (and three different S2s: 3-9x42MD, 3-15AO, 4-16MD and I may be trading asomeone for another S2 shortly).  For the money S1 is an excellent scope and it seems pretty durable to me although I do not abuse my scopes aside from occasionally dropping them off the shooting benches (not intentionally, just clumsy).  For the money both S1 and S2 are, IMO, outstanding bargains and I'd be surprised if they gave you trouble due to recoil.

If you tell me what other scopes in the same price range you are considering instead of an S1, I may be able to be of more assistance).

I need 2 maybe 3 scopes, and would like to have all SII's or FFII but just dont have the budget for them right now.  I was looking for something in the $100 - $150 price range for muzzleloading and for my secondary hunting rifle . There are alot of scopes in that range I know I was looking at maybe the higher end tasco, simmons, weavers or bushnell legend or banner.  Im pretty much sold on the Sightron SII but dont know how the SI compares to these others.

I don't think that you can do better than Sightron S1 in this price range.  Optically, S1 is a comparable or a little better than Bushnel Legends and Weaver Classic V9.  However, it is a bit tougher (I've seen a few broken V9s).  Simmons scopes have just been redesigned and I have not seen the new Master series scopes yet.  S1 is better than similarly priced Tasco scopes that I've seen (although I've heard that Tasco Titan scopes are decent, but they are also more expensive).
