My first post here, YAY!

I am just heading into the hobbie of long range shooting. I hope to work y way up into the 1,000 club eventually.

I am currently considering the purchase of either a Sightron SIII 6-24X50 or the new Weaver Super Slam 6-20X50. I was hoping to get some input from the experts here. I wand a good scope that won't break the bank and will allow me to grow a bit in hte hobby without buying another scope for a while.

Here are some diferrences I have found:
Weaver:
Costs $200 less or about 25%
1" tube
Only goes to 20X
Adjustment range is 270 MOA!!

Sightron
$200 more
30mm tube (more light?)
goes to 24X
100 MOA of adjusment range (barely enough at 1000 yds)

Unfortunately, I will not be able to handle either of these scopes in person. I am leaning towards teh Weaver. Even though it is only 20X and 1" tube it is $200 less and offers an incredible amount of adjustment.

What say you?

I have no experience with Sightron.

My Weavers have served extremely well, though. They're a lot of scope for the price.

The weaver site must be talking about 1/4 moa clicks, meaning it has 240 total or that would be 60 MOA.  There is no way those scope have 240 MOA of adjustment.  Their tactical line is only going to have 50 MOA of adjustment so those would be similar.  Looks to me like whomever is adding info to their site screwed up big time on that.

The Sightron has 100 MOA of adjustment.  That would easily get you to 1000 yards even without a canted base with the .308.

I thought so too so I called them. They do infact claim it is 240 (or whatever the number is dont have it in front of me). They said it is a whole new internal system. I asked the guy at least 4 or 5 times and he kept assuring me it was correct. It struck me as to much too any one have first hand experience?

If that is the case then why do their tactical scopes only have 50 MOA.  Something is fishy here in my opinion.  I don't see how it is possible for the internals to be able to move that much especially in a 1 inch tube.
