For long range shooting, I would choose the Sightron on the strength of better image quality at high magnification and larger adjustment range.

If this is not for long range shooting, I would be looking at other scopes.

I am truly looking for a paper punching scope that can give me a large range of Elevation that is repeatable.

I know this sounds odd but think of Mr. Bishop he is putting in the higher dollar in his scopes/bases and reticles which I can no longer do. I am jealous to no end with his rigs while I despise pistol shooting he really is doing a different pistol shooting than I have ever witnessed.

I am wanting to shoot at paper or "hardened steel" at ranges exceeding 1 mile possibility of 1.5miles + it can be done with accuracy and is fun...

I am trying to get an $800-1,000 Scope a $100 base (20 MOA OR 30 MOA) system and $100 rings. to do this with a holdover I can still see the target and impact with.

(WOULD LOVE TO GET MY HANDS ON A 0-70MOA ADJUSTABLE BASE FROM A MAJOR MANUFACTURE not yet in production but in trial) Sorry side note just had to get that out of my system.

The 10X does work and is effective.  I am wanting to "hone" in a little if you will and get a more detailed picture.  I want to see the shot and see the impact and see the variables better I do not want to have to be the spotter or even need a spotter.

I am past that point.

I now want a higher magnification just because.

I now want a "Dialed in" shot to which I do not need a more than outrageous hold over.  I do not want to have to spend $300-750 on a 0- outlandish MOA 100-600 or something insane.

I shoot subsonic (suppressed) .308 FP 150GR Berry's 30/30 Flat Points and 200GR B416 Lapua Bullets out to 500YRDS with clay pigeon accuracy it takes me a few in strong winds.  I am zeroed at 100YRDS.

I am holding over the hill to a particular tree branch I have used a tree branch or section of branches crossing or if you can imagine in your scope the crazy reticles they make now so to speak either on the imaginary or reticle CHRIStmas tree everyone hates or the R-1000.

It is not impossible I promise you, The flight time is long and the by the time you hear the impact you have already booked it.

At 500YRDS you can make out the impact with your scope and setup.  This is not possible at 3 times the distance.

It is about the same Issue at 1500YRDS the hold over is so significant that You can hardly make out your target and impact without the higher magnification. Or a spotter at your side or a Radio and another group of shooters/spotters.

I am just trying to see if a $1000-1250 scope and setup can get me there.

The days of the higher dollar optics and bases are over with it is family time...

And I know some make the argument of the 98 or the 91/30 or the Swedes did it with 3x - 6x fixed power power.  I do like to shoot them, say out to 500-700rds but after that the dust flying just isn't enough steel hitting is still fun but they kick and I do not reload the 7.62x54r or the 8mm the ammo just isn't accurate enough for me (that is my excuse for off hand shooting at that distance.  Probably some of the funnest shooting I have ever done was targeting Rocks and Milk Jugs at 500 with the 91/30 and the 48 and 98.

Back on topic.

So the choice for the scope came down to these because I believe the GLASS is decent and the magnification range allows me to see more (less FOV) but more details even though mirage is blinding at the higher power this will be done in early or cold consistent or warm consistent days.

Who knows maybe I am already talking myself out of this but again I am just trying to get creative and enjoy different types of the same old puzzle of shooting.

I have always argued the .22lr is fun at 300+ in the same ways but the Longer higher power stuff is more stress relief somehow.

So I am taking in the above scopes.

I provided this publicly in hopes it helps others as well.  Thank you ILya

First, thank you.
I would use use the S-3 also.
I have some experience with it (6-24) on several different rigs.  I even put it on a 375 Chey-Tac rifle of a friends and it held up great.  I have no experience with the Bushy.

OK.  That post was more than a little confusing, so let me re-iterate what I was able to extract out of it.

You are looking for a sub-$1k scope to put on a subsonic 308 rifle that shoots very nicely, but has ridiculous amount of drop at 500 yards, hence the need for a lot of adjustment range.
In order to avoid using a spotter, you are looking for a scope with high magnification.

A quick check with a ballistic calculator suggests that with a 100yard zero you are looking at somewhere around 18mrad of drop at 500yards.

With that in mind, the high magnification Elite 6500 is out of the contention wince it only has something in the neighborhood of 14mrad of adjustment range.

The best option would Sightron S3 6-24x50 since it has enough adjustment range for your needs and very respectable image quality at high magnifications.

Yes, but more for the .338LM at 1200-1500yrds as it has about the same amount of drop with a 500YRD ZERO...

It is very hard to see impacts at that distance hence the higher magnification more for sight in, (dirt flying)... or for misses dirt around target (flight path, effects)...

For 338LM either the 6-24x50 or the 8-32x56 Sightron S3 will work fine.

I am going to go 8-32.

What are your thoughts on the 6.5-20 with 1000 Reticle?  Not enough Adjustment but it could do holdover quite well> Maybe???

What is "6.5-20 with 1000 reticle"?  That is not especially descriptive.

I am not a big fan of holdover reticle is SFP scopes (to put it mildly).

Aside from that, the Conquest is a nice scope, but for longer range shooting I would want something with more adjustment range available (about 13mrad if memory serves me right).

Just throwing it out there.

thought maybe the Glass quality would offset the downs of the scope.

A lot is stacked up against the conquest compared to the sightron III on this application.

Thank You Very Much for you patience.

I am very well on my way with this purchase.

I am going SIII as far as I Can Tell.

I do know of adjustable scope bases that provide 150 minutes of elevation, unfortunately they are out of your price range.  You are asking for very specialized equipment to get the ranges in your post and it sounds like that you have discovered the limitations “stretching” pedestrian equipment for long range shooting.  The best advice is to make do with what you have until you can save up for equipment that can fulfill the requirements.

PM – me for links to the adjustable rings, they are listed on the manufactures web site.

Good shooting,

dsr
