I am new to this site. I have read some of the discussions about the Sightron 39X42 and 4X32. I wish to purchase one of them. I have also seen listed the S2 2.58X42. My purpose is hunting deer in PA from 50 to 100 yards max. I wear glasses and my eyesight is not great. Without a scope I could see little, if anything.

Which of these three models would give me the best close-up view of a deer at under 100 yards with good clarity, good eye relief, exit pupil stats and price?

I wish to purchase this week for a 7mm-08 Remington bolt action. I also want light-weight?

I could use some help...

Any one of the three will work just fine.

I own a S2 3-9x42, and I have used a S2 4x32.  I have not seen a 2.5-8x42.

4x32 is smaller than the other two, but all three are fairly compact.

"Without a scope I could see little, if anything"    I hope you're kidding  my kid just finished Hunters Safety and they stressed "know what you're shooting at"!

BTW........ where are you hunting and when do you plan to go

Any of the three would be fine.  I would go with the 3-9x42 just in case you ever get the opportunity to hunt somewhere else.

Thank you all very much for your helpful responses. I have also sent a message to Chris via Koshkin's orientation to me. You all all very knowledgable and I appreciate this.

Dave...... in reference to your question about the plex vs fine ret.....  The first scope I ever owned I bought for my new Win. mod. 70 in 30-06 was a Weaver wide view 4X32 with a dot.  I used that combination to take my 1st deer when I was 16.  Unfortunatly, the next year we moved to another state and i didn't really get to hunt deer again for about 5 or 6 years. Sometime after that I got a "better" 3-12X40...... boy did I think I was something (it was a tasco).  It had the plex style ret.

since then all my scopes have had the plex style and it has become the norm for me..... i don't think much about it....at least while hunting.  It might even help to center the ret on the game/target.  If you spend some time getting used to it, you should be fine.

I actually "practice" shouldering my gun.......... it has become somewhat of a fun exercise and it allows me more time to enjoy firearms....... does anybody else do that?
