Ok so here is my less than 1000 words take on the subject.

It doesn't matter which power the 16x or the 20x they both are not as pleasing as the 10x or 12x...

SORRY.

NATURE of fixed high power magnification scopes.

To me my eyes prefer the Sightron I think this has been explained as everyone eyes are different, Pupils and eyeball shape are variables in this equation.

PRICE:

STOP LOOKING AT IT LIKE $80 MORE FOR THE SIGHTRON.

Look at it like saving $200 on the Sightron on a close out.

The SWFA has always been the better deal $$$ wise.

Now that the Sightron is on closeout I believe it is well worth the extra few dollars...

You will be just fine with either choice.

NEGATIVES.

You do not get the Mil-Quad reticle.  SWFA SS has it the Sightron does not.

The SWFA SS reticle has many benefits and is capable of doing things the Sightron Modified Mil-dot cannot.  IT has more detail and has smaller margins for error due to more detailed and more incremental shapes and measurements.

The MOA adjustment with Mil reticle this is a very big negative for some people you should have a reticle that matches the adjustment.

The SWFA SS has MIL-MIL this is ideal vs Sightrons MIL-MOA less than Ideal.

They both have a little wash they both have a little white ring they both have a little less crispness than you can expect from the slightly lesser magnified 10x or 12x family.

By no means should this be your selection for hunting or for target shooting at less than 300 yards, this is my clear and unwavering opinion.

Can the Sightron withstand the abuse like the SWFA SS, they both do just fine I tried the Auto Loaders that are known to make scopes break, M-14 they both withstood the recoil characteristics of  forward and reverse just fine.

Ask questions.  In open forum please...

Just so everyone understands the SWFA SS 10x HD is not refereed to above. The HD is like $800 and is in a class of its own...  If SWFA made a 16x HD it would compare to the Sightron in glass and blow these Sightron's out of the water with the MIL-QUAD and the MIL MIL and the overall construction.

However the Sightron 16x and 20x are very solid scopes and are comparable to the SWFA 16x and 20x since they do not make them in the HD version yet.

I was right, this is good. I've heard from other people that the glass on the sightron is better also. Witch has the better or crisper feel on the turrets? I am in the market for a 12X or 10X scope, and these have been the 2 I am debating on. How much of a difference have you noticed in brightness between the powers on different models?

Resolution charts also show the Sightron 16x is better at resolving and distinguishing than the SWFA SS16X...

To my eyes again I believe the Sightron gives me a better depth perception or 3-D'ness effect.

"By no means should fixed-power scopes be used for target shooting or hunting under 300 yards"??? Heck, I used my 20x Supersniper, and now my Sightron SIII 20x for shooting groundhogs at under that range about 50% of the time. Worked/work great; in fact the parallax adjustment will go down to much closer yardage than any side-focus scope I've seen.
Otherwise, I pretty much agree with the comparisons I'm familiar with. Will say the fixed SIII's glass isn't as good as the variable SIIIs, or even my Big Sky SII. Also, the first of this model came with too-loose parallax rings; Sightron must have over-compensated by making the later ones too tight, as mine is. No amount of turning will loosen it up, so it looks like back to Sightron for fixing.

I had no issues with Sightron.  I had a warranty issue and it was taken care of in less than 2 weeks from start to finish.

The warranty issue I had on the 1-7 could have happened to any manufacturer.
