My eyes aren't what they used to be.  Is there going to be any difference using 6X Vrs 9X sighting in at 100 yrds.  I know there will be more movement but will the gun shoot any different.  And what does everyone else have their scope set on when they shoot at 100 yds.  Thanks

What type of scope is it?

I ask because if it's a well made one, there should be no change in point of impact through the magnification range. Having said this, I'll also say that of all the scopes I've used Simmons seem to be the most prone to magnification settings changing impact results.

I understand about needing more magnification to see the target well, but you are also correct that it is a lot harder to hold on target when you zoom in too much. 6x at 100 yards works well for me and my vision. Other guys here might use 3x or even 2x at 100 yards. Use what works best for you. I get eye fatigue a lot quicker trying to really zoom in too much.

For me, with older eye and cataract replacements, I like the convenience of a 9x zoom but I have a 6x40 Vortex scope on a Savage .22WMR and at 75 and 100 yard I really can see no practical difference in group size.  I still shoot MOA groups with the rifle and the right ammo, despite the smaller scope magnification.  I would be more concerned if you are going to shoot at longer ranges, but the .22WMR is a 125 yard gun anyhow.

I'd use the least you can get away with. Regarding whether or not the scope will hold the same zero throughout the magnification range. I've heard of scopes that sometimes don't. But it should. You could always zoom in and once you're satisfied with your zero, test it at different magnifications.

I have 3 different scopes one is  a 3x9x40Burriss, then I have a 3x12x42 Schmidt and Bender.   An a 4x12x52 Kahles.  Something I am going to try is using my reading glasses when I shoot.  I have yet to try the Kahles but I will try andstick to 6X.  Thanks everyone for the input.
