Well, I finally gave into temptation and 2 weeks ago, a Sig Sauer P239 SAS 9mm ended up following me home.

I like it even better than I thought I would, and I'm a Sig fan.

The P239 is kind of an oddball in that it's really a "tweener" sized pistol. It's generally classified as a subcompact though not nearly as small as most current "subcompacts." Yet it's smaller than many other pistols that are considered "compacts." Unlike most subcompact semi-autos, my pinky finger stays on the grip rather than hangs underneath the magazine while shooting. It's small enough to make it fairly easy to conceal, yet large enough to be very shootable. The grip ergos are near perfect to my way of thinking. Typical of Sigs in general, it has a rather high bore axis relative to grip position, but with its modest weight and in 9mm, this little gun is very controllable. Being an all-metal gun, it's of course a bit heavier than comparably sized polymer frame pistols, but not inconveniently so, IMO. Being a single stack mag pistol, it's fairly narrow, which helps with concealability, yet wide enough that it fits my hands well. In short, I think it's a nice form factor compromise that is a pleasure to shoot. I'll have a better feel for how well she carries once my holster arrives; I have a High Noon "Slide Guard" OWB on order.

Mine is the SAS 2-tone model with the "short reset trigger" (SRT) and night sights. As with all SAS versions, this pistol was nicely de-horned, with nothing to snag anything, anywhere. Not one to leave well enough alone, I polished the slide flats and replaced the stock plastic grips with Hogue checkered tulipwood grips to give it a little extra visual appeal. It came with 2 8-round magazines, but I also found and bought a rare 10-round mag, which Sig has discontinued for some reason.

I took it out for a quick range session this past Saturday, firing 125 rounds of Fed/ American Eagle 124 FMJ and Hornady Critical Duty 135 +P. Though this isn't quite enough rounds to gauge reliability, nevertheless, I had no "failures to" anything; the pistol ran flawlessly...as expected. At 15 yds, I was able to keep most shots within a 3" circle. I wasn't able to group shots quite as well with the P239 as I can with my P229, but it's a smaller, shorter sight radius pistol, so with only these 2 loads tested, I'm pleased with its precision so far. Unfortunately my P229 doesn't have the SRT; just the standard DA/SA trigger. I really, really love the SRT; it's a double-tapping dream!

It's a keeper!

"The OT Member formerly known as Rifledude"... now "PistoleDude"...

good rundown and nice modifications... ""aestetically" pleasing"... much better than the "stock" grips...

Well, it isn't a P220. Won't hold that against you, really. Good job.

I really like the p239, great gun.  Mines in 40 S&W but I really want one of the SAS's so I'm considering selling my 40 to find one of the SAS's and getting it.
