Need some help.  I'm restoring my first real gun I ever owned after my Daisy BB gun -- a 1947 .22 caliber Remington 511 Scoremaster rifle.  Dad gave it to me in 1953 on my 8th birthday.  It was equipped with a 3/4" Mossberg 4X mounted with a side mount (no brand name on mount/rings) that "leaned over" sufficiently to keep the scope directly over centerline.  Needless to say, the scope is a nice antique, but nothing more.  A replacement 3/4" scope of any consequence is probably a pipe dream.  Therefore,  I am obviously having to go to a 1" scope.  I am fully aware of Weaver's side mount (whose drill holes matches the ones existing in my rifle) and the two optional (long and short) rings/bracket sets which are compatible to the mount for this bolt action rifle.  The issue with this solution is that the scope will be "off centerline" of the rifle.
Question number 1 is have you ever shot an (offset) sidemounted scoped rifle and what are your thoughts of the experience?  Does it feel OK, impair accuracy, requires cheek-pad, or would you stay away from it at all costs.

Second Question.
Not too long ago while surfing some of the web's gun/optics sites, I saw for sale a recently designed side mount which did accommodate 1" rings and did maintain the scope over the barrel/receiver centerline.  It wasn't the one for the Mosin Nagant Russian WWII 1891-30 bolt action rifle which required modification of the bolt handle; it was for regular older rimfire or centerfire sporting rifles which used side mounts and obsolete scope sizes like my 3/4" rings/scope.  Unfortunately, I did not make it a "favorite" on my computer at the time, and all my Googles turn up nothing.  Have any of you seen/heard of any such offering that is available?

I know I could always fill the 4 drill holes and redrill for a top mount, but I do not want my little rifle treasure looking like a Gunsmith Training Academy practice piece.

I would appreciate your input.  I apologize if I have abused forum rules by posting in both Rifle and Rimfire areas.
Thanks.
