Ok dont beat me up too bad but I bought a pine ridge 6-18-44 sf for my 204 encore ( I had some gift cards that I needed to burn and didnt want to spend alot on the scope for the 204 a story for another day)  so I went to mount it using my warne maxima rings and I could not turn the side focus nob.  I know that pine ridge is not the best scope but is this a trait of all side focus scopes?  I need a new scope for my new 257 and was checking out the nikons but dont want to encounter this issue.

I was able to use some old school weaver rings and all was fine the warnes actually wrinled the tube a little.

just to clarify........ are you saying that with the Warne rings, you could not turn the side focus knob but with the Weaver rings you were able to?

that is correct the weaver ones are the ones with the screws on one side and a strap over style

You had them to tight. I think Warne has a torque driver that should be used when mounting their rings.

I was using the torque driver so that should not have been the problem

one ring might have been kicked sideways and created enuff stress to the tube to lock the focus down to where it wouldn't move. I had this happen one time and the rigs was out of aline just ATAD.  ATAD is a technical term. not saying you had it to tight just the angle from the ring made it that way when you locked it down.

Just a thought.

I suppose that could be true but I used 2 different sets of rings maybe even 3 it has been a while all warne and it was on my encore so it was a one piece base so the error tolerance was pretty minimal where as I was blaming the scope so I think I should be safe I may try some different rings next time though but I will also be using a higher quality scope.

I only got the pine ridge since the 204 will never see any extreme conditions and does not have recoil
