I am needing a scope for a 7mm RM.  This will be a backup gun to my backup gun so I don't want to spend alot of money on it at this point.  I have been considering a Sightron SI 3-9x40 with either Mil-dot or the HHR and the Bushnell Trophey 3-9x40 with Mil-dot.

Which would you prefer of these two?

Will they hold zero from the recoil of a magnum?

Is there any other scopes in price class that you would suggest?

What do the adjustment knobs look like on the SI?

Thanks

While I would take the SI if in your shoes, I'm not sure I understand the logic. This is for a backup gun for your backup gun? So if your high dollar scope breaks, and your good backup scope breaks, you will let your hunt rest on the cheapest scope in the inventory? I don't get it. Anyway, between the two, I have to agree with Pyro on the sightron, I can't say too much for the Vortex, as I have little experience with their products.

I cannot speak for the Sightron, but I have a buddy who against my advice deciced to spend as little money as possible on his scope for a Model 70 in 7mm Rem. Mag. He bought a Trophy and it worked fine the first year, Second year it almost cost him a really nice 10 point. Everytime he shot the round would be in a different spot, turns out the reticle could NOT hold up to the recoil of the 7 Mag.

Based on my experience with 3 trophy scopes which went bad, i would not recommend them. Only bushnell scopes i would recommend are the elite and legend line based also on my experience with bushnell products as bushnell scopes are the most common and readily locally available scopes here. I don't own a sightron so i can't comment on them but i've heard nothing but good things about the sightron scopes in general. Big Smile

Poorer quality cannot expect to  handle recoil.  I'm all with you bricat.

Buy the Sightron SI.Better scope and the best warranty in the business. The Sightron is made in Japan. My friend last month bought the Trophy on the advise of an experienced hunter/ salesman at Gander Mountain who was pushing both the Trophy and the Nikon Prostaff. The shelf had three leftover Sightron SI scopes but the salesperson said Gander Mountain no longer carries the brand and that he should buy these other scopes which were better. This happens to many people who go into these big hunting outlets and wind up dealing with a salesperson selling a brand that brings in a better profit. For the money he spent on ammo and missing a buck due to the scope breaking from the heavy recoil of a 30-06.A trip back to Gander Mountain for a store credit which he used to buy the Sightron SI from the same salesperson who still tried to sell him another brand. Now he has this weekend to get a deer with a Sightron.Yes the Sightron is a better choice than the Trophy from Bushnell.Cool
