Hello all,

I am looking for a small set of binos mostly for Bow hunting and perhaps for still hunting close cover. This is an area where I haven't typically used binos before. I have two sets of Binos.. a set of bushell elites in 8x43 and a set of burris landmarks in 8x30.

I find the landmarks to work well enough for this function but are heavy and large enough I don't always carry them. I was considering trying to drop a little more size and weight without spending any real money.

I was thinking of:

Bushnell 8x28 excursions.. phase corrected roofs..for under $100

or Bushell legends poros  8x26  sample list ~$70

basiclly the two questions are

How would either compare to the Burris 8x32 landmarks Optically?

Do you think the 25% weight reduction will be felt?

If you are looking for small binoculars for bowhunting, it may be a good idea to go to a lower magnification.

I would suggest you take a good look at Leupold Yosemite 6x30, or if you are willing to spend a little more Katmai 6x30.

I stopped over at cabelas today and looked at the two bushnells and the burris lankmark IIs.

Here are my thoughts.

It was inside a store so sometimes its not the same as out of doors.

I didn't like the legend 8x26. They had that same dark look you see in $20 compacts...I had assumed that in cheapie binos the Porros would be better but these were decididly unimpressive.

The bushnell 8x28s were better than my 8x32 landmark IIs and way better than the legends. both in general clarity and in brightness. If I were going to buy a set it would be these guys.

In the end I decided that even the 8x28 excursions weren't different enough from the existing burris to justify spending any money. So I came home and put the 2 fifties into the kitty for a hunt somewhere.

Down the road  I would still like to get a pair of smaller binos but these guys just wern't enough upgrade to justify spending even the limited money they cost.

Next time I am at Cabelas I will look for some of the 6x's
