I have been getting advice from the members of this forum on scopes that has helped me make good choices I think. I have purchased  monarchs, conquests, vx3s, and I just got the 4200 2.5-10x40 this afternoon. It  seems to be a very nice scope except for what I think is to little eye relief. The scope weighted 15.5 ounces on my scale which is just under catalog specs. To get a full fov. I found the eye relief to be under 3 inches. Eye relief on the 4200 2.5-10x40 sees to me to be about .5 inches shorter than the leupold vx3 2.5-8x36 about .8 inches shorter than the monarch 2.5-8x32 and over a full inch shorter than the conquest 2.5-8x32. I wear thich glasses which puts me a little closer to the scope than someone without glasses. I will put this fine scope on my lightest kicking rifle and I will not buy another 4200 scope. The eyepiece  does end in soft rubber which could prevent a cut. Anyway if you want a scope with generous eye relief do not buy this one.

I have the exact scope on my 300 WM, 280 Ackley and a 30/06. I have shot all of them quite a bit and have not had a problem with the eye relief.

My 2.5-10X40 4200 is on my 270Win and I haven't had a problem with Eye Relief yet.  Granted it is shorter than a few others but serviceable.  Love the 4200!

Perhaps I will have no  proplems either but it has less eye relief than any other scope I own so I am putting it on a 270. Like skilly1979 said everybody's eyes are different. I am near sighted so that might be a factor. I just found that if I held the 4200 close enough to get the full fov. it was pretty close to my eye.

It is a short eye relief, but I have never had a problem.  Mine also sat on my 270 and I think you will find that to be a great match of scope and rifle.  Unless you hold the rifle wrong, I doubt you will ever hit yourself.  The 4200 made the SS 3-9 seem like it had a mile of eye relief.  That being said, I would not hesitate to put the 4200 on any of my rifles from my 22s to my 45/70.

The 4200 on my Sako 30-06 is fantastic, no issues with eye relief.
