Gunna try and get a good one started.

My granddaddy got me shooting when i was 5 (daisy golden eagle, still works), .22 when i was 8, .410 when i was 9, etc etc etc. Went into Army, and got sent to Iraq. Stopped shooting for along time after. About 5 yrs ago i bought me a over and under and realized i really missed shooting and that it felt good again. Bought a few more guns, and then i bought me a nice .308 for longer range stuff.

Now i need a scope and im getting confused on what to do with ALL THE DAM INFO OUT THERE!!!!!!!! I dont want to spend a whole lot of $$$ so i was thinking maybe about the Bushnell 4200 or a Falcon. I want a tactical varible power, side focus, mildot scope. I never owned a scope before and i wanted to be able to shoot between 100-1000 yds.

Can this be done with either of these brands and if so how much MOA will i need with the base. If i go busnell it would be the 4200 6-24x50, if Falcon have not decided on model.

I know this a SS hot spot but i REALLY want varible power and they dont have it.

Thank you for any info or set up suggestions yall might have.

The bushnell will not be good because it only have 50 MOA of internal adjustment.  Step up to the 6500 and it would be fine.

What is your budget for scope, rings, and base?  Then we can point you to the best scope in your price range.

the 6500 has covered target turrets.  They are resettable they are just lower and covered vs. the 6-24x 4200.

NOt sure what rifle you got but they probably have what you need.  I would get a 20 MOA base.  http://www.swfa.com/c-1771-warne-tactical-bases.aspx

The downside to the millet is the 56mm objective, that thing is huge.  YOu will have to have a cheek piece on your stock to be able to use it properly.  Here is a pic of a Karsten cheek piece.  They work very well and can be installed on almost any stock.

That stock is a little higher than normal but you would still probably want the karsten with one.  I have a adjustable HS precision and I have to raise mine quite a bit to fit for my scope and it is only a 40mm.

If I were you I would probably get a Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x40 or 2.5-16x50 with MilDot.  That would fit your budget and give you enough adjustment range for what you need.

I shoot with a Burris Black Diamond 4-16x50 with target turrets on it.  I got custom turrets from Kenton Industries for my gun and bullet.  I have no problems shooting out to 1000yds with it.  I am waiting for my XTR and it has more adjustment that the Black Diamond.  I have the Ballistic Mil Dot in the Black Diamond, and love it.  It is great for holdover when hunting and I don't have time to adjust the scope.  The scope sits on a 300 win mag shooting 180 gr @ 3100 fps.  It is a nice setup for long range shooting or hunting.
