Men.. at 50 something I am brand spanking new to a rifle and scope. I do occasional bird hunt with a 870 rem. shot gun, plink with a ruger10/22 (UTG 4X scope) and I am pretty good range shooter with my 1911's and few other semi autos pistols

I'm just getting into hunting. I am in shock by the scope prices and awe'd by scopes power and long range stuff! After a lot of study now I am 102 percent confused

I bought a remy 700 in .308 sps-aac 20 inch barrel and 10:1 twist. Want to coyote/hog hunt 100 to @ 300 yards and practice punching paper out to 300 yards someday maybe 600.

Don't need and would not know the difference in a NF, S&B, high $$ scope for sure. I just need a 400-600 variable power, mil dot dollar scope to "learn" on use till I know better.

However I don't want a wally world Simmons or Barska pos either. I do need to learn to how to judge/find ranges, adjust turrets for shot, and get it back to zero without getting lost in turrets. The various BDC stuff looks simple but I appears one needs a $$$ range scope as well.

Please recommend me a simple to use, good "learners" scope that I can really use and hunt with.

The fixed SS scopes are about as easy to learn on as they come.  But the SS 3-9 and 3-15 are the same.    Sometimes while learning less to adjust is better so a fixed may be the ticket.

How close are you to Red Oak Texas?  I see your in Texas but I know its a large state.

Thanks guys. I likely go with the SS in variable power. Should be good now and later when I know more.
I currently have a 20 MOA weave base the one SS inch scope may  need the elevation if I'm not mistaken.

I have hunted with the 3-9 SS and highly recommend it. The glass is great, adjustments crisp and the reticle does double duty for hunting and range use. You shouldn't need the 20 moa for your ranges, but it shouldn't hurt. Others can chime in there.
