I had a scope mounted on a Rem. 700 LVS with millett rings on weaver bases. The dealer that did the job put a shim in the bottom of the ring only, nothing in the top of the ring. I was looking at a post in the forum and they show shims under the base. Is it common to shim in the ring?

I would try out the Burris Signature rings with offset inserts. These rings w/inserts are great for adjusting the scope to the rifle without using to much of the scope's internal adjustments.

The posi-Align inserts only work with the Burris Signature rings. The inside of the ring is concave to accept the insert.

Not exactly sure how to achieve 20 moa, however the catalog gives a few examples that might help.

.005 insert will change point of aim by roughly 5".

.010 insert in one ring and .020 in other ring will change point of aim by roughly 30".

Hope this helps,

Dave

The easiest way to get a 20 MOA elevation change would be to use a regular set of inserts in the front ring and a  +.020 insert in the rear ring. Hope this helps you out.

Depends on how much elevation you need. You will have to put the + MOA insert in the rear ring and then a 0 insert or even a negative MOA insert in the front ring will give you plenty of elevation to start with. Hope this helps you out.

Will shimming add a noticeable amount of stress to the scope? -CM
