Has anyone seen or used a Shepherd scope.  Seen it in the shotgun news newspaper.  Looks and sounds real neat and even went to their web site.  If anyone has more info, please let me know.

All I've ever heard about them is that they have very poor glass. The ad always makes them sound great.

I don't own one, but one of the best gunsmith's I've ever known did.  He loved his and always tried to get me to buy one.  I used his on occasion... never did really warm to it.
One shot zero... yes
glass... not the worst I've seen, but certainly not good.  I'd say fair.
eye relief... poor
reticle/s ... busy, reasonable accuracy out to 500 yards, drops off some after that.
It has some neat features, but, for me, not worth the price.  It doesn't have a very "solid feel" to me.  For the right price, I might purchase one, but I certainly wouldn't pay "retail" for it.  Gunny Marshall never did talk me into buying one.  That said, he loved the Shepherd.
Reviews on it are all over the place, from worst I've ever seen to "singing angels handed it to me and said "you will never miss"".

I have heard many times that Mr. Shepherd does not believe in "returns" or "customer service".

If you plan to get one, answer this question to yourself... "is this money I can afford to throw into an open fire and and laugh at the ashes?"  Not saying that will happen, there are obviously some very satisfied users, but you have to decide if you want to take the chance.

I haven't heard a lot that is positive about them. Some like them, some don't.  I wasn't too impressed with the one I looked at.  I think you can get a better scope for that money.

A friend of mine who has more money then sense sometimes (if your reading this sorry!) bought one about a year ago.  My first impression was the glass wasn't the best but had no obvious flaws.  The dual reticle zero worked well, but I never thought zeroing a rifle was that daunting of a task.  The reticle was a bit cluttered to me but functional.

Then told me he paid 700 bucks for it.... no way.  For the same money you can get a 3-9 conquest with a rapid z reticle... or 50 dollars more get a swarovski z-3 and I would take either of those over the Shepard any day of the week and twice on weekends.

Yes, they're for real.  I have four of them.  I've had Burris and Leupold VXIII's and the optics are comprable.  The reticle is no more busy than a mildot scope, and the circles are like using a peep sight (the target insert peep front sight on an open sight target rifle, where you put the bull in the center of the front sight circle and the front circle in the center of the back peep) but you just put your target inside the circle that fits it.  The 300 and 400 yd circles have crosshairs to help precision but the 500 yd and on are uncluttered.  I've used a P2 on a Ruger 30-06 and another p2 on a 35 Whelen to kill deer at more that one range within seconds of each other.  The object with this scope is to get good hits (killing shots) at multiple targets without having to adjust for different ranges, and it works.  I killed three Kansas does this last January during the doe season at ranges from 280 yds out to 375yds using the circles with my .35 Whelen in about 30-40 seconds using Sierra 225gr Gamekings.  After you learn how to use the scope, you'll probably like it.  But you need to experiment with it and find out what it will really do.  My 300winMag is going to get a P1A this Spring when I get back from Afghanistan.  As for the Shepherd guarantee, I sent my Shootist in to them about 3 years ago.  I bought it in 1985.  Dan sent it back after completely referbishing it and sent me the bill.  $15.00 Shipping and Handling.  My 1985 scope is now like new.  You decide.
