Hello All,

A new member here seeking some sage advice on a purchase that I'm intending to make for a trip in the fall for mulies in Idaho. I've been shooting for target with my Savage 11FL (.308 Matt-synth-Iron Sites) and a cheap BSA scope but have decided to update my optics.

I hit the pavement looking at optics and was centering on 3x9x40s, originally taking an interest in Nikon Buckmasters or Monarchs. I cross compared a few Leupold VXII's but thought the Buckmasters were better by both price and light transmission. Then I picked up both a buckmaster 4-12x40AO falling in love with the sheer clarity and parallax flexibility....my mind was almost made up.

Today I ventured forth to a different store with an outstanding collection of scopes, tried a new Buckmaster 4.5-16x40 SF but their old inventory had been cleared and no Monarchs were found. My eyes then fell upon the  Bushnell Elite 3200 4-12x40 AO 32-4124a and frankly in a side by side comparison...the bushnell won out. Now I also find that the price here is outstanding on it. So in short...that's my tenative choice.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Bushnell 32-4124 as well as scope ring and base recommendations so that I can keep using Iron Sites?

Your Comments are appreciated

Many Thanks

DGN

are you dead set on using the iron sites? rings that are 'see through'? -

i have heard horror stories about those things.

the bushnell 4200's beat the buckmasters, hands down - you can't go wrong w/ that scope.

i would use the lowest rings, highest quality you can get (leupold, talley, etc.) and stray away from the iron sites, if you are gonna have a scope

up there.

this is my opinion, of course.

good luck and let us know what you do.

welcome to the OT.

J

I had a set of see through rings that I used to have on my .22 so i could still use the irons.......wouldn't even hold up on that.

Hey All,

Overall I guess I could do without the high rise scope rings but prefer to keep the sites. QD mounts will probably give me the best of both worlds. I'm surprised that there aren't more 3200 fans in the crowd though...was hopin someone had some first-hand experience with this. Once there's a break in my schedule..I think I'll put the order in.

Regards,

I have a 4200 elite and love it, tracks and holds POI while providing bright and resolute optics at a reasonable price. Caused me to buy a 5x15 3200 elite for another rifle, very tight eye position at higher powers (almost unusable) and a taste of parallax that the AO would not remove (about an inch that couldn't be removed no matter where the AO was positioned). Talked to bushnell and was told some of the 3200 scopes were experiencing this problem, declined to wait while they tried to fix it (they wanted 12 weeks.....eeek) and decided to stay with 4200's for my uses. Those close-out monarchs are a really good deal if you can find one in your power range, best of all worlds.
