All,

Am I the only one to have noticed that Steiner Nighthunter binoculars seem to have gone on sale? I have noticed several places advertising the XP 12X56's for $800 after they have been setting at $1,000 for the past year. Any idea what is going on? Is Steiner discontinuing the line or are stores simply getting rid of stock?

New models coming out in the Nighthunter and Commander models. Steiner has developed their own version of a "Rainguard"/ "Lotutec" hydrophobic lens coating, called, "Nano" coatings,  among several other improvements, such as a newly developed 'rubber armoring".

You could also consider that at north of $1,000 they are competing directly with the likes of Nikon, Swarovski, Zeiss and Leica.  I'm not sure anyone would confuse Steiner with any of those models.  Probably have to discount just to sell them.

in steiner's defense, the nighthunters are extremely good, compared to ANY swaro, zeiss, or kahles i have sampled.

i have had 3 pairs of steiners and ALL were worth their weight in gold.  Very good for the money.

their compacts are VERY comfy, bright, and crisp.
