That is the way it was here today.  It got into the mid to high 60s and now it looks like it will be snowing within the next couple hours.

Low pressure in front, with a high pressure pushing the cold front.  there is enough difference in  pressure that there are high winds.  then you have enough moisture in the high pressure and low temps to get the snow.  nice combo.  wish it would snow out here in oregon.

Does anybody know what the greatest 24 hour temperature change in the CONUS was?
I seem to remember somebody talking about a drop from the 60s or 70s to minus 20s in Montana, but don't really know if it was true.

The record is indeed in Montana.  Happened on Jan 15, 1972.  Went from -54 to 49.  103 degree change in 24 hours.

The biggest going down it also in Montana.  Jan 23 1916 in Browning dropped from 44 to -56.  100 degree swing on that one.

Most I have personally seen was 40 to -36 in a 24 hour period.  And the fastest I have ever seen was 20 to -22 in a hour and a half!

I was in Rapid City Oct. 5-10 That was the most varied weather I have ever been in..  That Sat was very nice then a front came thru about 5:53 temp dropped 46 Deg and the wind was blowing over 90 mph. While helping some air force guys drag out a doe. The wind took me completely off my feet. 29 deg. at midnight. The next morning it was 65 deg at 6:30 am. I kept me confused.
