I have a Finn M39 that I'd really like to scout scope.

I've located a couple of sources for mounts that don't permanently alter the gun.

I've tried to research two types of EER scopes quite a bit....The Burris Handgun 3-12 and the Nikon EER 2.5-8.

I want to be able to shoot as far as I can, 500 or 600 yards.

Does anyone have experience with either or both of these scopes as rifle scout scopes?

Or do you have suggestions from other types of scopes?

I've got a Leupold scout scope on an old Ishapore Enfield.  I don't like the low power of the Leupold. It's great for out to 300, but not much beyond.

Even at 100, the reticle on the Leupold scout is so thick that the targets I typically shoot at are blocked out. Great for quick, snap shots.

But I'm wanting some extra range.

Thanks for any replies.

Burris Handgun 3-12x did not work well, but the 2-7x worked OK.  Ultimately, I liked M39 with a simple 2x pistol scope in a scout configuration the most.  Higher magnification had somewhat limited utility, but for range shooting it was OK.

When I last played with it, I used a Burris 2-7x with Ballitic Plex reticle it was nice for shooting a bit further out on the range.

I have two 2.5-8x28 Nikon Monarch EER UCC scopes, both in matte black with the nikoplex reticle. Not the Encore. One is currently for sale. Look under the "optics for sale" section on this site.

This is a great scout scope. I used it on my 300 WSM Ruger Frontier compact in the scout postion. Not exactly a short range rifle. Better than either the 2x7 or the 3x12 Burris` imo. Great glass.

You can also read all about it here............."shootingtimes.com"......Click on...."Optics".....then find....."Dual Purpose Optics from Nikon" by Dick Metcalf. I don`t remember what page but you`ll find it.

Thanks for the replies.

Hey Big Squeeze, it was your post about that article on the Nikon EER from waaaaaay back that started me researching into such scopes.

I had just about decided to bite the proverbial bullet, and get a bent bolt body, etc. for that M39. But it was one of your posts about your Nikon EER experiences that got me looking into this.

Got one for sale, eh?

Hmmmmm...........

I`m surprised it hasn`t sold yet. It makes for a great hunting revolver scope too.
