I'd barely begun to break in my my Stag M4 style carbine when I got the sudden uncontrollable urge build up a my own carbine to fit me and my needs as a longer range and more accurate stuff/fan carbine. What I chose is Adco's sub-MOA mid-length 16" designated marksman upper with a White Oak match grade barrel.

Adco Custom Designated Marksman M4
Complete 16" Mid-Length Upper

  • 16" 1:8 SS White Oak barrel KDd black
  • M4 Feed Ramps
  • DD 9.0 M4 Rail
  • Wylde Chamber
I'm going to get the CompC3 for the Stag but this one deserves magnified optics. If you had to choose between the Leupold VX-III 1.5-5x20 or the Burris Xtreme Tactical 1-4x24 which would you prefer in an emergency? And If the Leupold, would you pick the normal or thick multi-X? Which has better optics? How does the Sightron SII Big Sky 1/2-5x20 compare?

Leupold:

Weight 9.7oz
Length 9.4
Eye Relief 4.4-3.6
FOV 65.7 - 23.7
Exit pupil not listed

Burris:

Weight 17oz
Length 11.3
Eye Relief 4-3.5
FOV 109 - 32
Exit pupil 24-6mm

Sightron:

I just got a 16" White Oak barrel today to build a new upper.  Pretty excited to see how it will shoot.

I would go with the burris so you can use the BDC

+1 on the Burris.  If I were to go magnified on my AR, that is the way I would probably go, but I think I am going to go with an Aimpoint

Thanks for the help. I'm going to pick up the CompC3 for my Stag in a few weeks but as somebody pointed out to me an Aimpoint is just not the optic to put over a match quality White Oak barrel. I went ahead and ordered a Burris for this Adco. Once I get it here I'll play with it a bit and decide where to locate it using the Stag. Then I'll get a mount and have it ready for the upper when it gets here late next month.
