I have just purchased a Winchester model 70 22-250 and I am looking for a good scope in the $150 - $250 price range.  Most of the shots I plan to take are in the 200 - 300 yard range.  Open for suggestions.

PS: The gun has a Weaver fixed power scope on it, but I was wondering how to identify it beyond that?  Also what kind of warrenties may still be on the scope?

What are you using it for?  In that price range you can look at Weaver Grand Slams, Burris FFIIs, Nikon Buckmasters, and Bushnell ELite 3200s.

Based on my personal preferences I'd go with the following:

(1)Weaver GrandSlam

(2)Burris Fullfield/ Pentax Pioneer

(3) Nikon Buckmaster #2 and #3 are VERY close

(4) Bushnell 3200

The Weaver is the best optically out of the group

I've been looking through the sample list and have found the following scopes.

Nikon 4.5 - 14 x 40 buckmaster $229.95

Weaver 3 - 10 x 40 grand slam $199.95

Simmons 6.5 - 20 x 50 whitetail classic $99.95

BSA 3.5 - 10 x 50 Catseye $79.95

Which would you recommend?

Thanks for all the help

The Weaver.  Followed by the Nikon.  Simmons is too hit or miss.  BSA is the worst scope made.

Ranburr said it best, with the above post.  I wouldnt even consider a BSA even if it was free.  Simmons I have only seen one Simmons scope that I was impressed with and that was the Simmons ATV (no longer made) The glass was pretty good especially for the closeout prices, but even then it when on a rimfire.  The Weaver out of the ones mentioned has the best optics, I personally think the Weaver Grand Slam is about the best buy out there you get one heck of a scope for the money.
