I recently picked up a Browning BAR in 270 WSM to replace my Armalite AR10 as my go-to rifle for hog hunting. The AR10 was more than adequate but it is simply too heavy and has too many square metal edges that constantly dig into me while i'm being jostled around on my ATV. Anyway, I'm going to remove my Trijicon 2.5-10X56 from the AR10 and put it on the BAR and I need a new scope for the AR10. While its going to be relegated to punching paper, it will still be my back-up when I hog hunt so it needs either thick or illuminated crosshairs that will turn down very low. (think Trijicon) Id like to keep the price as low as possible but I don't want a POS. Heres a few I'm looking at:

(not sure about the reticle on this one)

Heres a new Burris that is on sale, it might be ok but I'd really like a 12 or 14X

this one is interesting...

Or, should I just get another Trijicon? Really for hog hunting they are very tough to beat.

Thanx for all your advice and suggestions.

Based on your requirements and the list you came up with, I'd go with the Trijicon, if it were me... Looks like the best all around choice.

Tejas,
Until yesterday, I was totally sold on the Leupold VX3 4.5-14X40LR.  I went to a national gun day show and was able to look at all kinds of scopes (Vortex, Leupold, Zeiss, Burris, Bushnell, Saworski and many others).  After weeks and weeks of reading reviews, talk forums and even suggestions from my outfitter, I was going to go Leupold all the way.  Until,  I looked at the Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14X44 with the RZ reticle.  I have never in my life paid this much for a scope and time will tell.  But the Conquest just seemed above all the rest in everything I wanted.  Bottom line buy what you want and don't think too long, because someone will always tell you, the scope they purchase is better than the one your looking at.

Im afraid your right, with the Trijon, I know what Im getting too. The Conquests have such great glass though and the Z plex reticle IS usable at night...

I DO have a Conquest 4x on my .458 Lott.  It is great in low light situations, which is why I got it.  It also holds up to the .458 very well.  However the tritium reticles offered by Trijicon expand low light shooting capabilities considerably.  My preference for those situations is the red reticles, they have the least impact on low light/night vision and are intstantly visible.  I've always meant to get a Trijicon and have found deals I just couldn't pass up every time I started to make the purchase.  Nothing against Trijicon, except they are so popular they don't have to offer great deals very often, never when I've been in the market.  Someday, though...

Mine has the green Mil-dot. It is absolutely lethal under the full moon because of that reticle. Before I got this scope I struggled putting a black reticle on a black pig, finding the pig in the scope is easy! Now you just put the tiny green dot on your preferred sweet spot...and unleash a 168 gr Barnes TTSX. Damn what fun!

Those Barnes TTSX are "the bomb"... one of the best hunting bullets I've ever used.  Completely changes the ".308 equation" for me.
