I bought a nikon coyote 4.5-14 with the BDC reticle.  I'm finding that the eye relief seems pretty touchy, which is strange because I own 2 other 4.5-14 scopes which don't seem as touchy.  Am I imagining this, or is the Nikon scope different?

I'll shoot this scope a bit more, but am already considering a different scope, but I want a 4.5-14 x40 or 50, and prefer camo, but might consider sending it to somone to camo.  I'm absolutely in love with an older weaver tactical 4.5-14 X44, and would buy one tomorrow if they were still making them.

Suggestions anyone?

Do you only want a 4.5-14, or would you consider a 4-16?  Just seems like you are really limiting your options.  What is your $ limit?

4-16 would be fine, objective in the area of 40-50 is fine.

Assuming I decide to change scopes and assuming I can sell my Nikon, 500 would be my limit.  It goes on a 223 for coyote hunting if that helps anyone.  I'd prefer some sort of BDC/mill dot type reticle.  I won't consider a cheap piece of junk either.

Lots of really good scopes in your price range.

If you've been pleased with Nikons in general, might try this one.

Ilya would really be the guy to ask, but a lot of the regulars here use their rigs for the same purpose you intend and will offer good advice as well.

I don't have an opinion on scope choice for you, but I thought I'd comment on having your scope camouflaged. You mentioned you might send whatever scope you decide to purchase off and have it dipped.

I'm not too sure about having that done, myself. I'd be concerned about the glass getting scratched or possibly voiding the warranty somehow, but I don't have any experience with anyone who does this, and for all I know there may not be any risk involved at all.

BUT, I would suggest either Camo-Clad removable vinyl or a camouflage scope cover of some sort. Just something to think about.

Optional Accessories:
it doesnt have the top end of 14 or even 16 but the vipers are well worth the money.  You could get some of that no sticky camo tape from sportsmans wearhouse and camo it yourself.

I'd check the eye relief against your other 4.5-14x Nikons. The Buckmasters and Coyotes should be the same scope mechanically. If the eye relief isn't correct, send it back to Nikon for warranty repair.
