I am looking for a low powered variable for my Sako AV. The rifle will see more of Alaska than Africa. I've been kicking around the Leupold VXII and VXIII in the 1.5-4x20 and 1.5-5x20 respectively. What other scopes might fit the bill and offer comparable clarity and ruggedness? I haven't never actually looked through a Leupold with a wide duplex reticle, but I am considering it. What are it's advantages or drawback compared to the standard duplex? Most of my shooting with the rifle would be for shots well within 150 yds and possibly much closer with a moose or bear problem encounter. Thanks, |

I would have picked the ones you picked, up to about a year ago. My choice currently would be an A.C.O.G. Good for any close shot even in the dark.

Those are good choices. I would also look at Kahles, Kaps and Swaro, S&B in the 30mm arena. The ACOG would work , but I am more of a traditionalist. You can get the same ACOG benefits from the Trijicon 1-4x20 and have a hunting style scope.

Take a look at the Burris 1.75x5x32 Signature Safari. It's a very rugged scope, made for larger caliber rifles.

I have an elite 4200 on mine think it is and its worked above and beyond so far.We were in africa for three weeks and it never failed me in the least and never lost point of aim.The only thing we did was check the zero when we arrived at the safari camp just to be sure nothing had changed and the only thing they had me do was sight it dead on at a 100 yards instead of the 1 1/2 inch high at 100 .At this writing have had several hundred rounds through it and no problems
