So I have had this sitting in the safe for 6 months or so, and probably should finally scope it, havent fired it yet.  Savage 10FCP in 338 LM.  Almost bought a NF, but couldnt bring myself to spend 1800. Really been leaning towards the Weaver Tac 3-15x50 FFP with EMDR, seems to be the best bang but want a bit more mag.

What other thoughts would anyone have for 1,000 or under?  Might go a little higher if good return on the extra money.  Use is for screwing around punching paper or steel at various ranges on the farm, but want something reliable that would stand up to rifle, and something if i needed to could trust life with.

The SS non illuminated would get my vote. I know it's outside you price range, but I own one, and its a very robust scope.
You might also check the for sale ads on the various forums. With the group buys going on, there will probably be some deals out there.

If it has been sitting for 6 months, do yourself a favor and let it sit a little longer till you get the money for an SS 5-20.

Ditto

The only other option I could possibly see would be a Vortex Viper PST but it does not compare to the SS in any way.
