Just got info that my SS10X42 has shipped. I am new to the scope game as all my background is in handguns and M1 Garand iron sight shooting. I have a Remington 700PSS that the sope will be mounted on, and I will be shooting initially at no more than 500 yards. I have Leupold mk4 flat base and tactical rings. Now my question is about initial setup, For windage adjustment I have been told that to get the scope on 100yrd zero, you would traditionally buy adjustable scope mount so that no adjustment on the sope is necessary for windage. But all the tactical type mounts are non-adjustable. So anybody have a good article or directions on the best way for me to set this scope up? Adjust windage knobs on scope for 100yrd zero, then return the turret back to zero?
Any other good information for a newbie to long range shooting would be greatly appriciated. Edited by Hamburger |

I am not an expert but here is what i can tell you. I have never used my windage screws to get my rifles zero at 100 yards. Allthough you can do it because that is what they are there for. What i allways did was when i was boresighting a rifle i allways adjusted the screws so that the scope was set right in the middle of its adjustment range. Now i dont know if that is the proper way to do it but that is how my dad tought me to do it.And he said it was because if you had a problem windage wise then it was easier to adjust them if you started out with it centered. As far as weaver or picatinnys go i guess ive been lucky so far and i have yet to encounter a problem with them as far as windage goes. So don't be worried about using you scopes internal adjustments to get a zero at 100 yards. Just make sure that you don't burry your scopes windage knobs in either direction because it can dammage your scope. |

With Mark 4 rings and base you mount the scope and use the scopes internal adjustment. Once you have your ZERO at what ever distance you select 100, 200, 600. there are three hex screws on the turret knob losten them lift the turret knob gently turn it to the zero setting push gently back down tighten the hex screws and you are good to go. |

That you for the info. I had a delay due to some mis-machined Burris tactical rings, they wanted to twist the scope on the back to the left instead of striaght... Being a machinist myself, that kind of poor qc angered me and I ended up doing what I should have done in the first place and bought some Badger rings. They are now mounted on the leupold base and everything bolted up perfectly. So this weekend I will bore-sight it and see how the 100 yrd zero is...
