Hey guys,

I have been lucky enough to get a Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44 from Santa so I now need advice on rings and mounts for a Winchester .270

If you use Leupold base and rings use Meduim Height rings.  I have the conquest 44obj with leupold High rings and now I know medium would have worked fine in this brand.  The gun is savage accutrigger model 110  .270win.  If your gun is a winchester then this is probably not valid.  I assume every rifle will be a little different.

Also, had I not had these rings I think I would get the burris z-plex rings because they offer some adjustabitlity.

Thanks alot Power-Strings. Any info is useful because I really don't know much about the technical aspect of scopes. I'll look into the base and rings you mentioned.

Yeah, check out those new Talley lightweight ring/base combo aluminum rings.  I have some on two of my rifles and they are awesome, all in one deal, no separate bases then rings.  The bottom half of the ring is also the base.  Lightweight, simple, tough and inexpensive!

I found Talley rings to be good, if not a little overated.

The best hunting rings IMO, are Conetrols.

cheaptrick, how do you figure?  The conetrols' (and I own a set) as good as they are, don't compare to the NEW talley aluminum rings which sell for around $40 a set.  No separate base to deal with like the other traditional ring/base set ups.  I have tried them all, Talley, Warne, Leupold, Nikon, Kimber, Burris, Weaver and I am most pleased with the Talley Lightweight aluminum ; get on their website and give them a look.  Super lighweight, tough and INEXPENSIVE!

I somewhat stand corrected.

While I have not even seen the Talley aluminum rings that you recommended, I have had a few sets of the "other" Talleys and frankly was not all that impressed.

They left wicked ring marks on the scope tube and they were not as good as I expected. But they were good, I guess.

The folks at Talley were very knowledgeable and nice too.

I should have read your post/recommendation more closely, before responding.

The aluminums sound nice. Are they split-horozonial??

The one thing about Conetrols that sucks, is they are a bear to set up!!

But once installed correctly, are the best "hunting" ring that I have seen.

I have a winchester model 70 and a Conquest 3.5-10x44 I used the leupold 2 piece bases and high rings. The scope sits about a half inch off the barrel.

I appreciate all the info guys. I count on the experience you have so I don't end up getting some bum rings and bases. I have the same exact set up as carolinaflats. I'll check out the Tally light weight ring/base combo in the catalog.

Cheaptrick, the rings on the new Talley Aluminum's split horizontally.  The bottom half screws right into the top of the receiver.  They are fairly wide and don't bite into the scope walls like the others you speak of.  They are a very solid simple design; now I wish they would make them in 30mm!

With the recoil of the .270 Winchester, you will find that none will equal the Redfield of Leupold bases and rings, and they are well worth the money........If you reload your ammo, e-mail me for some killer deer loads.

Do they make the Talley light weight ring/base combos only in black, or do they also make them in silver?
