    Posted: December/19/2010 at 10:48
Hello:

I have a friend who just purchased a Remington 700 SPS in .243, a Bushnell Elite 6500 1.25 – 8X 32mm scope (the scope has a 30mm tube) and an Evolution Gun Works (EGW) Picatinny Tactical Scope Rail Mount for Remington 700 Short Action rifles.

The big question is what scope ring height does he require with this setup in order to get the scope height as close to the barrel as possible. He will require a little space for the addition of the Butler Creek flip-up scope covers. He wants to go with either Leupold or Talley quick release rings. Does anyone have any suggestions as to height? I am leaning towards low rings; however, he will be buying them over the Internet and needs to get this detail correct. Thank you for any advice you can provide.

Regards,

Chizzy

The lows should be more than adequate. By why Quick release on a bolt rifle? I would also suggest the TPS alloy lows.
If it is tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

He just wants to be able to have the option of moving the scope from gun to gun or to take one scope off and add a higher power one for load development. etc. I should have mentioned the primary use for the gun will be a coyote calling gun.

If I'm not mistaken, Leupold lows are lower than Talley lows.
With the flip-ups, Talley lows or Leupold mediums should work.
Leupold lows probably maybe might.
