I have recently purchased a remington 300 ultra mag and I am looking for a scope for elk hunting in the colorado mountains.  I have looked at the burris fullfield 2's, and the bushnell 4200 series.  What else should I take a look at?

What is you budget for the scope?  Any features you want?  More specifics will help with the recommendations.

For the two scopes you have mentioned, the 4200 has the better optics.  The FFII is more rugged to me.  My FFII has survived being rolled on by a horse, and several years of guiding.  Never have had a problem with it.

Welcome to the OT!!

Sightron and Leupold would be excellent choices as well. What kind of weight and power range were you thinking of?

Have you seen this particular terrain on which you'll be hunting?  It's pretty diverse in the mountains, so knowing what normal/max range you expect an encounter will help narrow the field.

The Nikon Team Primos is a great scope for about the cost of the FFII and the 4200 if you are looking at the 3-9 scopes.

I'd take a look at the Sightrons or even a Sample List Kahles CL...

If eye relief is an issue I'd go with the Nikon Monarch/Team Primos over the Bushy 4200. That extra 1/4" or so can make a big difference with a hard kicking rifle. I keep a Burris Siganture Select on my 6.3lb 300WM because it offers even better eye relief.

Look at the Zeiss Conquest.  That will be the top scope in that price range in my opinion.

Last week we put a conquest Z 600 3x9-40 on a Remington 700 300 win mag. It is a good match for my setup. Did not get a lot of shots because so much time was spent cleaning between rounds but I like the Z600 reticle. Set at 8.3 power the come ups matched on the 100 yd target for the longer ranges to 500 yds. The rounds can be matched to the power setting on the calculator that is on the Zeiss web site. The Pride Fowler system used in the Zeiss is becoming my favorite BCD system.
