New member here,  I have a questions about a Handi Rifle chambered in 444.   I'm looking at different scopes and would like some input on which one you would suggest.  The scopes I'm considering are Burris Fullfield II, Nikon Omega or Leupold VarxIII.  I will be shooting the Leverevolution ammunition in 265gr.  Also, would a 3-9x40 be over powering for this chamber?  Any other recommendations are welcome.  Thanks!!

Southernhunter..................I would not be inclined to go with the Nikon Omega as it is designed more for muzzleloaders. Your other two choices are fine......IMO, the 3x9 is over magnification for the .444. The maximum power, if even these, I would consider would be a 5x or 6x.................

What about the Leupold Rifleman 2-7X33mm.  Would that be a better choice over the 3-9x40?   The only thing I see is that my objective would be smaller...  I plan on taking shots under 100 yards mainly but, may eventually take one under 200 yards.

I would even go with a 1x5 before a 2x7.......They both would be the better choice than a 3x9. I have a 3x9 on my 300 WSM which is a far more suitable magnification range for that caliber........The quality of scope you get, in optics clarity and so forth, will depend on the money you wish to spend. I don`t know what your particular budget is if any, but the more you spend, the better quality you will receive in return.

My budget is $200+/-  a few bucks on this gun.   Are Pentax scopes any good....Pentax Gameseeker 1.5-6x40?

The good lower power variables, are much higher in the bucks! In that case either the Leupold Rifleman or the Burris Fullfield in 2x7 will work just fine. They are both about $175. It`s just a matter of your own personal preference!!!

Big squeeze,  Thanks for the replies I was just lost about which scope to get for this gun.  I will go look at LOOPY :) and Burris 2x7's.

The Bushnell 3200 2-7 is in this price range and might be worth considering. I like the 1-5 range myself but they aren't as bright as my 2-7x 32's. I just put a 2-7 Nikon Monarch on my 45-70, too bad they are history. It's a very nice scope.

Never really considered a Bushnell Scope.  The only experience I've had were with the old Bushnell's and they would fog up.  How do the Elite's handle??   For the price what scope would be the best and size including objective?  2-7x32?

Nikon Prostaff

Nikon Monarch

Burris

Leupold Rifleman or the Varx series

Busnell Elite 3200 series

southernhunter i bought 444 handi about 2 months ago and i put a nikon monarch 3x9x40 with leopold weaver style {high} rings and it made a dandy little set up.Keep in mind that no matter what size scope you decide on it still going to take high rings because of hammer clearance.Im asumming you hunt in mississippi where these are legal now during our primative weapon season.

Have to agree on the high rings--My son's first deer rifle was a 30-30 handirifle, with Leupold's x-hi weaver rings , and a Bushnell 3200 Elite 2x7x32...I also put on a Advanced Technology collapsible stock w/pad ( to adjust LOP as he grew)..The complete package worked great. At 10 yrs old he shot his first deer. It was a 180lb 10 point on Maryland's youth day with his grandfather.

You could also check out the 3200 with the  Firefly reticle .. it works pretty well in low lite situations, keeping the cross hairs from being obscured against darker colored game..
