Help Guys. I have acquired a Kimber 8400 Classic in 270 WSM. I need your thoughts on a scope for it. Mostly holes in paper 100 to 400 yards. I know what the heck did you get that caliber for. Won the gun in the Kimber raffle at the NRA convention. Budget up to $450. You were all right on as far as the EOTech 512 for my SDI CAR-15. Need help now!!!

Nikon Monarch 5.5-16x44mm would be nice.

You may opt to try the new BDC reticle with that Monarch as well.

(I would just stay with the Nikoplex if it were me.)

Do you have any idea which magnification range you are interested in?

I know it only going to be used for target shooting, but it is still a pretty trim and well proportioned rifle that weighs, I believe, around 6.5lbs.  I'd probably go with a smaller scope with an objective lens of around 40mm.  Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5-10x40 is a good choice as is Burris Signature Select 3-10x40.

The Leupold VX III 3.5-10X40 would work nicely on your rifle.  It's $470.00 I believe, and a good bit smaller and lighter than the Bushnell or Burris.  If you're just shooting it off a bench, you might appreciate the extra weight, though.  I've shot the 8400 in 270 WSM quite a bit.  Recoil isn't bad, but a lot of shooting off the bench might get unpleasant, as it's a very light rifle.

As a typical FNG I ask for advice and end up with something completely different.I ended up buying a Zeiss Conquest 3-9 X 40. $399 at Cabelas seemed like a good deal and I am familar with Zeiss's camera lens. Thanks for all the help though. BTW they had an M1A loaded and scoped in the library that was like new bought it also. I can't go in to a gun store with buying something!!
