I am in the middle of building an ELR rifle. It will be used past 1500 yards and possibly up to 2500 yards Anyway, I need a good scope. I currently own a NIB Burris XTR II 4x20x50mm scope. Will this do or do I definitely need an upgrade? If I do what do you recommend? Thanks |

Fotis, the Burris XTR II 4-20x50 will definitely "get you there". I've used one... liked it a lot. Is it the "best out there"... No, not by any means, but that category will cost you somewhere around 2.5 to 3.0 times as much as the one you have that will do the job. Nightforce ATACR comes to mind immediately, Vortex Razor Gen II 4.5-27 is a hot item, Tangent Theta 5-25 (probably my choice if spending that much money... only scope I've ever used that I have NO complaints about... I just cant find anything about it I don't like... except maybe price). There are lots of options, but you can do the job with the Burris... glass is good/clear, mechanicals are good, reticle is good... one of our former members (who has now, sadly, passed away) used to shoot 4" clays at 1200 with a SS 3-9, regularly. I suspect he could stretch that, at need. |

Opinion,untempered by fact,is ignorance.

Thanks. I like the Burris. I just want to ensure it is up to the task. What do you think about the Leupold Mark 5HD ??

The Vortex Gen11 Razor is a very good scope and used ones are going at a discount. It does weigh a whole lot so if weight is a problem look elsewhere

If money is not an issue Tangent Theta is as good as it gets.I own a TT 315M and it is my favorite scope on a bolt rifle.
