New r700 5r milspec, Badger 20moa base, 30mm rings.

Looking for a scope in the $400 or less range.  shooting distances will be 300-600 yds,  hopefully some 1000 yds.   Topic probably beat to death, but Thank you anyway.

What are you shooting at those ranges?  Target? Steel? Vamints?  Will you ever shoot other ranges?

The SS 10x is a great scope if you are only going to shoot target or steel, but if you decide to go hunt, I prefer to have a little less than a fixed 10x, although it can get the job done.

if you want a good variable in that price range that is a good all around scope the vortex viper series may be a good fit as well.

Sorry, I should have provided more info.
 Target shooting only.
Its for my son.  Spent most of the budget on the gun.
I could come up with another hundred,  $500 would be the max.
Dont know if that puts us into any other choices.
Thank you all for your input.
