I am after opinions on  scope power ranges. Rifle cal is 25-06 Ack Imp. Game is roos pigs rabbits and foxes at short to long range as well as paper puching. Guess i want it all in one package, was thinking 3-12  or 4.5 - 14  range  and i do like those Weaver GS scopes. I would appreciate any views put forward!

I favor the grand slams as well, and that 4.5-14 would be my first choice if I were in your boat. You can read around on here and you will see that many other people have had great success with the GS scopes. Some guys even go as far to say that they're beating their VX-III's optically.  The GS has a low enough power to get those close rabbit's, and enough high power to zoom in on those elusive fox's. Thats about the perfect power range to get everything done that you want to do.

        Weaver Grand Slam 4.5-14X40...... $324.95

If you were looking for another option? Take a look at the Burris FF2. They have a 4.5 14X42 with the ballistic plex reticle. That reticle could come in handy varmint hunting. The optics will be better on the GS but its hard to pass up a free spotter. Yes you get a FREE spotter with this scope. This way you could go to the range and have a spotter to check out your groups!! Its a great deal but my first choice is still the Weaver then followed by this FF2.

Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14X42...... 336.99

And last but not least the , the Elite 4200 4-16x40. Your slipping Brady! I'm sure you just had a senior moment, as they say.

Oh I knew you would follow up behind me with your 4200.  I already took redneckbmxer's FF2 recommendation. Now we're just waiting on Ranburr to give his insight.

I would not want to let you guys down!  My first choice is obviously the Conquest, and you guys have done a good job on rounding out the selection.  About the only other one that might be added to this list (without a big jump in price) is one of the Nikon Monarchs.  If you were to limit your choices to something around 3-9x40 you can really expand your choices on quality optics without having to get a second mortgage.  I use this size scope for pretty much everything, the only exception would be if you wanted an extreme long range varmint rifle.

Thank you folks for sharing your views. I would like you all to expand your  ideas on your own ideal  power range for  a dual purpose rifle  such as mine. Ranburr i sense you feel 3-9  almost covers the spectrum  with a larger range of brands to choose from. I had a 7MM Rem mag in the early 80s with a fixed power 6xWC Tasco. That was fine for me then (i was mid 20s) now i am in my late 40s and the eyes are not that sharp anymore. I just think i need more magnifcation if i can hold her steady enough. Thanks Brady for pricing your suggested scope choices, alas i am not sure if i can buy from you  being  down here in OZ. Again thanks for your thoughts.

Tiger Snake, you are dead on in your assesment of my views.  I think you will find that higher quality optics will actually do more for you then just higher magnification.  You might actually still do quite well with a 6X if the optics are really good.  In talking with most people, regardless of age, most people keep their variables on 4-6X.  I think for 99% of the population and just about any shot under 500 yards, 4-6X works for most people.  Good luck on whatever you choose.
