    Posted: July/06/2006 at 19:54

Hello All,

I'm looking to put a low power scope or Red Dot scope for a 9mm Colt AR15. Something good for Close Quarters Combat since the rifle is 9mm.

Thanks in advance for your comments and recommendations.

The Aimpoint M2 or an EoTech would be an excellent choice. Both have their pros and cons. I like the Aimpoint, but its just what I'm more used to using. Although I have had an EoTech (on a .50 Beowolfe) and was very impressed with it. The ability to buy batteries at any convienance store or mom & pop gas station was a real plus if out in the middle of BFE.

I'd probably go with the EOTech running AA batteries, Being able to easily get batteries is a big plus. Having a wider field of view is another big plus. Having said that I can see (almost) no reason whatsoever to use a 9mm semi auto AR-15. The cartridge is pathetically weak and will require multiple strikes to take a bad guy down with the exception of a headshot. The AR-15 is not nearly as fast in CQB as a handgun  or full auto submachinegun and most law enforcement handguns are .40 cal which is far more effective  -  .45 would be a good choice also, and in common use by many tac teams. A 12 guage riot gun would be adequate at close range so long as there are no friendlies in the line of fire. The only way I can see a 9mm AR-15 being the weapon of choice is as a very short range under 50yds  head shot only semi-sniper type weapon and if such is the case you  could use a low power variable tactical like this one  - (just be sure that it is headshot only):

LEU56994 Leupold 1.5-5x20 Mark 4 MR/T 30mm Riflescope Leupold 1.5-5x20 Mark 4 MR/T 30mm Riflescope
  • Matte
  • Illuminated Special Purpose Reticle
  • 30mm
  • M2 Target Knobs

i enjoy my eotech that i have on my AR...i have successfully used the aimpoint overseas, so really it i think that it turns into personal preference and budget...

True an EOTech is half the cost of the Leupold but its nice to have a choice and the 1.5-5x is about all the scope that a 9mm could use, and there are some situations where a little magnification would be useful.  Sometimes the glass on the gun is all you have with you.  Note that the first scope that came to mind for it was an EOTech though.
