my friend just talked to a gun smith and he told him the closer the better (paper) thickness is the distance he likes from the barrel--anything to this distance thing?? -thanks pc

Well, generally you just want to mount the scope as low as possible so you can get your face down correctly on your stock.....how close the scope is to the barrel doesn't have anything to do with anything.......it just depends on the physical dimensions of the scope.
