Complete optics newbie help required
I'll be off prairie dog hunting with some buddies with my Colt AR-15 carbine, flat top upper, 16" barrel with fixed front sight. Likely not the best rifle for the sport but it's what I've got. Looking for a good mid-range priced scope and more importantly, what do I need to consider with mounting to clear the front sight post? Thanks in advance! |

I think it would be helpful if you gave a more specific price range for the whole setup. Midrange means different things to different people.
Most AR specific mounts will place the scope high enough to avoid the front sight from blocking your view. However, it may still be present as a small blurry shape at the bottom of the field of view when the scope is set at the lowest magnification. Considering that this is not a 20lbs bench rifle you are talking about, I would suggest going with a scope of moderate magnification and objective bell. Something along the lines of a 3-9x40 or 2.5-10x40 or 3-12x40, etc. Since I am not sure of the exact price range, I will abstain from suggesting specific models for now. ILya |

I'm looking for similar Help finding a scope for my .223 BBl AR-15. In a perfect world Burris would make a 3-10x42 side focus mil dot scope for $200. Right? I have an
XTR on it right now and it is quite large. I looked at those monarch UCC's on clearance in a 3.3-10x44 for $289. Juicy but only a 1" tube, I have a guy here in town wants to sell me a SS20x42 for $200 bucks or a Burris 4x12x44 signature series for $200 bucks as well, but it's a long scope no target turrets. I can send it in though to burris for $80, but at that point shoulnd't I just buy a Sightron S3 or another Burris XTR? Thanks |
