I am looking for a suitable scope mount for a Mosin M44.  It will be restocked with a composite.  Not highly familiar with this rifle.  Suggestions?

Maintain iron sights...

That can be tough.

What kind of a scope do you want to put on it, and are you willing to drill the receiver?

ILya,
I'm beginning to suspect the rear sight is going to have to go.   I've found a number of mounts, all requiring removal of the rear sight.
No, not really interested in drilling the receiver.
I'm considering the Leatherwood 2-7 Scout scope.

I've tried pretty much every Mosin mount made in the last fifty years (I have a bit over a dozen Mosins).

Which one are you looking at?

Also, for a scout mount (over the rear sight), I would highly recommend a simple 2x pistol scope, instead of the 2-7x Leatherwood.

The best one is made by a gentleman named Darrell.  I have used about half dozen of his mounts on different milsurp rifles and they work.

ILya,
Thank you.  That looks like the "hot setup".  Much appreciated.  Anything in 4x you like for this rifle??

Burris 1.5-4x26 pistol scope is a pretty good way to go (thought not cheap).

Of the fixed 4x scopes, I have used Swift 4x32 Premier which is not bad.

Generally speaking, I found 4x to be appreciably slower to acquire the target than 2x, which kinda detracts from the whole scout concept, in my opinion, but if you have a little more time and want to shoot a little further, it works.

I don't own any of his mounts, but I know that Darrell is very highly respected among mil-surp fans. He builds mounts for a lot of different models, in small production runs.

Sometimes you have to get your name on a waiting list and just wait for the next "batch".
