Anybody have a non Ranch Mini 14 and use the side mounted scope bases? Are they any good? Anybody succsessfully mount a scope on a non Ranch Mini 14?

I seen one at a rifle class I took. It mounted the scope really high, the lady had to tape a bunch of padding on the stock to get a good cheek weld. Were talking 3 or so inches of padding. Also half way during the class the mount broke and she had to use irons for the rest of the day. Not saying they will all break, probably just bad luck on her part.

dont need side mounts on the new mini14 they redesigned the action so is ejects the spent case straight out the side instead of straight up
