I went to bass pro today to look at scopes. I went with an open mind because I have not looked through that many scopes in my time. I looked through a Zeiss Conquest, Nikon monarch, bushnell 4200, 6500, Leupold vx 3, and trijicon. I had no bias for any scope when I went in becuase I have never used any of these before.
I like the bushnell elite 6500, and Zeiss. I thought the Zeiss was brighter and more clear than anything I saw all day.
I was rather dissapointed in the Leupold it was actually my least favorite. (This is my first post so please dont burn me to much for saying that ). I thought the nikon monarch was actually very good, and if I was on a more restricted budget, I would get it and never look back. The illumininated recticle of the trijicon was rather interisting but not for me.
So that brings me to the decision of Bushnell 6500 4.5-30X50 and Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20X50. I will be useing it for long range varminting and some paper punching starting at 100-500 yards.
I want to get the Bushnell because IMO it was clear even up to the 30X mag and is some cheaper. But the clear bring immage of the Zeiss keeps coming back to haunt me. Every time I make my mind up I think about the Zeiss again. I probably need to go back and compare them again. Im sure either would be great, and would actually like both.
I have always wanted a Nightforce but they did not have one to look at and they are much more expensive than these two. I also regret not looking through the Swarovski z6 they had so I would know what two grand worth of glass looks like.
So to sum this rant up. I need help on the decision of Zeiss or Bushnell. Im sure either would be good. I like the extra magnification of the Bushnell 6500 but never having that much mag in a scope not sure if I can hold it still. ( however, will be shooting from prone and bench mostly). Also not sure how much help that last 10X mag really is.
So what do you guys think? Also I was not able to compare it on a gun as far as tracking and return to zero, and overall ruggedness. I do want a pretty tough scope as the gun may spend some time in the truck seat while I feed cattle looking for yotes and pigs etc.
To throw one last wrench in the equation, I may have an in with Swarovski and be able to get their products at cost. In which case I will have to start all over.

I believe the Zeiss to be of a higher perceived value...
No one is going to burn you for your Leupold comment. Especailly when it is highly thought of exactly how you worded it...
You are free to speak as you will within reason no cursing and bashing...
Look at the Vortex Line they are very well thought of and are considered by many to be a great bang for the $$$.
