I just bought Marlin Glenfield Mod 60 and Mod 25 rifles (both 22 caliber) from a neighbor and now I'm looking into adding some optics. The Mod 25 already has a Glenfield 4x scope, but I would like to get something a bit higher quality and more adaptable. I intend to do mostly paper punching and plinking, but might end up going after some squirrels or ground hogs some day. I'll probably put the 4x scope on whichever gun I like the least and put the new optic on the favored one.

What do you guys recommend for under $200? What rings do you recommend and what height?

I was looking at these, but would like some opinions and suggestions:

http://swfa.com/Simmons-4-14x44-Aetec-Master-Series-Rifle-Scope-P3390.aspx > Not quite the mag range I'm looking for but seems like a great deal for a scope with so many features.

I'm thinking the 2-7x or 3-9x mag range is where I want to be, but I'm open to suggestions on that as well. I don't need world class optics as these will just be fun guns and for my girlfriend to shoot when I bring my AR to the range. I'm also in the market for an optic for the AR, but that's a whole other thread......

From your list the best bang for your buck is the Viper.  Then possibly the Redfield.  The rest, forget about it they aren't in the same league.

Yeah, I was leaning towards the Viper...now I can't decide which reticle to get! Anyone have any opinion on the Versa-Plex versus the standard V-Plex?

I have a Marlin model 25 with a Sightron SI 3-9x32 RF on it in Warne 22 rings.  I have been very happy with this setup for squirrel hunting and plinking.

I haven't checked current prices, but this whole setup is probably around $150.
